Spoiler-Free Review: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab

I picked up this book on a whim after reading the synopsis. The story of a girl who makes a deal with an old god and, in return, is cursed to live forever while no one remembers her immediately intrigued me. It was also very different from my usual reads.

Spoiler-Free Overview

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue follows a young woman who makes a desperate deal with an old god to avoid an unwanted fate. The bargain grants her immortality—but with a devastating curse: no one she meets will ever remember her.

My Thoughts

This book becomes a slow game of cat and mouse between Addie and the god she made the deal with. Throughout the story, you're left wondering whether any of her choices are truly her own or if they’re being orchestrated by the being who holds her soul.

This is by no means a bad book—it's simply a slower read. There isn’t a clear villain or a dramatic climactic moment. Instead, the story follows Addie’s life over hundreds of years as she explores the true cost of the deal she made.

The novel raises interesting questions about loneliness, relationships, identity, and what it really means to live a life that leaves a mark on the world.

Personally, I prefer books with a little more action and adventure, so this one didn’t fully resonate with me.

And honestly… selling your soul just to escape marriage? Come on girl, just run away.

You might like this book If you enjoy:

• Slice-of-life fantasy

• Strong character development

• Philosophical or reflective stories

• Books exploring identity, loneliness, and the meaning of life

If you’re like me and prefer faster-paced stories with action or romance, this may not be the right fit.

Book Hangover Level

🚫 Not my vibe. It was fine—just not for me.
