Books:
The Rose Bargain
The Thorn Queen
Overall Series Rating: 🔮🔮🔮🔮
Is It Worth Reading?
At first glance, The Rose Bargain appears to be another human-girl-meets-fae-prince romantasy.
It's much more than that.
While romance certainly plays a role, the duology explores friendship, sacrifice, family expectations, manipulation, and the true cost of getting everything you've ever wished for.
The first book builds its world slowly, introducing readers to an alternate England where bargains with the Fae Queen shape society. The sequel shifts into darker territory, focusing on the consequences of those bargains while raising the political stakes considerably.
One thing I appreciated was that the story remains a duology. Rather than stretching the plot unnecessarily, Sasha Peyton Smith provides satisfying conclusions for her major characters while answering most of the questions raised in the first book.
Perfect for readers who enjoy:
Historical fantasy
Court intrigue
Fae bargains
Character-driven fantasy
Slow-burn romantasy
